Intellectual Property Right Awareness Programme at ISM

The IPR cell of ISM Patna organized an Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Awareness Programme on Wednesday, 7 December 2022. Prof. (Dr) Ajay Kumar, Professor of Law, and Dean, Academic Affairs and Law, Head of the Department, Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies, Chanakya National law University Patna, graced the programme as chief guest and key note speaker. Near about 500 PG and UG students of both management and IT streams participated in this programme. Honourable Director of ISM, Prof. (Dr) R. K. Singh inaugurated this expert talk and felicitated the chief guest and the other team members of extra- curricular activities with mementoes.

Before the session was started the whole ISM fraternity paid heartfelt condolences to an eminent economist, former Vice-chancellor of JNU, New Delhi, Professor, Y. K. Alagh who passed away yesterday. He also recalled a few live moments spent with that great academician at JNU and BHU.


Introducing the session, the Chairperson of IPR Cell and Programme Coordinator and Nodal Head of the institute, Mr. Rajeshwar Dayal said, “Upholding the vision of Creative India; Innovative India this programme intends to take the Intellectual Property Rights to the grass-root level and ensure the innovations happening at the local and grass-root levels. It also acknowledges to protect respective IP laws and the individual innovators able to seek commercial benefits through protection of their ideas and innovation.”


The law affairs expert as key note speaker made the participants acquainted with the term  Intellectual Property Right’ very lucidly. Comprehensively, he deliberated on the origin of IPR, relation between Human Rights and IPR, need of IPR, legal technicality and methods of filing IP applications especially by Start-ups, Small and medium enterprises, individual innovators, necessity of IPR reforms at grassroot levels. He enlightened the students about patents, copyrights, marks and trade secrets, significance of IPRs in the globalised world order in contemporary technological era. The participants could get an opportunity to interact with the law expert with their queries related to simplification of the concept of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), intellectual property rights and their uses in corporate world.

The whole programme was moderated by a BCA III student, Ms Shruti Jha. Member of ISM IPR Cell, Assistant Professor, Ms Jaya Kumari proposed vote of thanks to the dignitaries and all the participants on behalf of the whole ISM family.
