The International School of Management Patna has achieved yet another milestone in its commitment to nurturing excellence in education. Under the visionary leadership of Director, Dr. V.B. Singh, the institute successfully concluded a comprehensive six-day orientation programme, "Deeksharambh 2023," designed exclusively for the first-semester students of PGDM, BBA, BCA, BCP, and BAJMC programs. The event, conducted in three distinct phases, came to an end on Saturday, 26 August. Hon’ble Senior Technical Director, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, Mr. Pankaj Kumar, inaugurated this orientation programme on 21 August, 2023.
The orientation programme was divided into three phases, each tailored to the unique requirements of different academic programs. The first phase targeted BCA students, acquainting them with the intricacies of the field and the technological landscape. The second phase catered to BBA students, offering insights into the fundamentals of management and business ethics. The final phase was dedicated to PGDM, providing them with a holistic view of management theories and practices. Each phase was conducted in an Inaugural, Panel Discussion, Personality Development and Management Games sessions.
All the three sessions were inaugurated by Chief Guests, Hon’ble Senior Technical Director, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Dr. Bijoy Narayan, Retired Professor, JD Women’s College, Patna and Hon’ble Chairman cum CEO, AIC, Bihar Vidyapith, IAS (Retd), Shri Vijay Prakash respectively. They were accompanied by the Hon’ble Chairman of ISM, Sri Samarendra Singh, Vice-Chairman, Sri Deval Singh, Secretary, Sri Amal Singh, Director, Dr. Vijay Bahadur Singh and Administrator, Ms. Neeru Kumari Jha, all domain leaders and faculty members. The six-day event witnessed a plethora of activities, including interactive sessions, expert talks, personality development workshops, team-building exercises, lexical games and management games. Seasoned academicians, industry experts, and socio-psychologists were among the speakers who shared their wisdom and experiences with the eager students.
The participants got opportunities to interact with panellists Mr. Anand Krishna, Faculty and Trainer Astric Solutions India Pvt. Ltd and Mr. Subhash Jha, Founder Manaskriti Institute of Learning and Development; Nalin Kishore, an Academician, Ms. Himani Mishra, Managing Director, Brand Radiator and Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, General Manager of Life Sciences; and Prof. Janardan Jee, an Academician, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Trainer and Motivational speaker and Dr. A. K. Verma, Marketing Consultant and Visiting Faculty.
Through panel discussions held by panellists the students could learn about emerging trends in Information and Technology, and Business Management like the potential and challenges of AI and ML in diverse industries, growing concerns on cybersecurity and data privacy, analysis of the transformative effects of cloud technology and the management of massive datasets, Internet of Things (IoT), Software Development Methodologies, Digital Transformation, Sustainable Practices, Remote Work and Flexibility, Employee-Centric Approaches and Data-Driven Decision Making etc.
The management games conducted by faculty members of finance, marketing and human resource domains were intended to draw the attention of the participants towards the main components of management like cooperation, coordination, communication, leadership, decision making and marketing acumen.
The domain leaders of the Department of IT, HR, Economics and Finance namely Ms. Jaya Kumari, Ms. Pooja Dubey and Ms. Shilpi Kavita in their welcome note acquainted newly joined students with the vibrant campus life, campus facilities, various curricular and extracurricular activities and related committees, entrepreneurship cell and NSS to enhance their personalities and employability aligned to the demands of the dynamic corporate world.
Dr. V.B. Singh, a visionary in the field of education and Director of ISM, congratulated the students for being a part of the ISM which is a leading educational institution dedicated to fostering academic excellence and holistic development. With a distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and a commitment to innovative teaching methodologies, it equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a competitive world. He emphasized the significance of a strong foundation during his address to the students. He stated, “A successful academic journey starts with a strong orientation.
“Deeksharambh 2023” was designed to provide our students with not just information, but also inspiration. Our goal is to empower them with the right knowledge, skills, mindset and discipline to thrive in today’s dynamic world. ISM as a centre of excellence reaffirms its commitment to providing quality education that transforms individuals into leaders of tomorrow.” Drawing from his extensive experience as a retired IAS officer, Mr. Vijay Prakash shared insights on leadership, problem-solving, and the importance of ethical business practices, significance entrepreneurship development skills with the newly enrolled PGDM students. He highlighted the changing landscape of business and technology, urging the students to cultivate a mindset of adaptability and innovation. He also emphasised that the journey they embark upon here at ISM will not only equip them with academic prowess but will also instil an amalgamation of critical thinking, creativity, a deep understanding of societal needs, the values of integrity, resilience, and teamwork aligned to the today’s business environment.
Addressing the eager gathering in the valedictory session of Deeksharambh 2023, the Training and Placement Officer of the institute, Ms. Neeru Kumari Jha underscored the institution’s commitment to providing a holistic education that transcends classroom learning. Pointing out the reasons for the high placement rate at ISM, she highlighted the institution’s strong network of corporate partnerships, which facilitates internship opportunities and campus placements, and frequent training and placement workshops organised for the students to shape their personalities as the leaders of the corporate world.
"Deeksharambh 2023" marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new batch of students, equipping them with the essential tools and insights required to excel in their chosen fields. The programme’s well-structured format catered to the specific needs of students from various disciplines, ensuring a seamless transition into their respective courses of study.
The purpose of Deeksharambh - Student Induction Programme is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self exploration.
A four-day orientation programme “Deeksharambh” 2022 for the BBA, BCA, B. Com and BJMC students was organised on Tuesday, 6 August 2022. Obeying the convention of the institution, the programme commenced with the light lamping and Saraswati prayer. The commencement of the event was marked by the cordial welcome speech to the Chief Guest, Honourable Minister Department of Art, Youth and Culture, Government of Bihar, Sri Jitendra Kumar Rai, Vice Chairman, Sri Deval Singh, Secretary, Sri Amal Singh and Director, ISM, Dr. R. K. Singh presented by the Domain Leader of Finance, Assistant Professor, Ms. Shilpi Kavita.
Succeeding that, the Director, ISM made students familiarised with the rules and regulations of the institute. In course of his deliberations, he talked about active cooperation of more than 20 committees, clubs and cells existed on the campus to improve holistic development of the personality. He said, “With the help a team of erudite faculty members and several activities the students in every domain could feel confident in achieving placement just even the starting of their last semester.” He asserted that ISM wanted to produce self-disciplined and self-reliant youth for the self-reliant nation.
Thereafter Honourable minister congratulated the students for being a part of the best business school of Bihar and wished them for a bright future with a disciplined and dedicated team of this institute in amiable environment of the campus. He said to the students, “Government of Bihar is dedicated to assist such type of premier institute of the province in achieving excellence in education. He assured that the government would extend its all-possible assistance to ISM to be converted into Vikramshila University within a year. He asked them to solely focus on building their skills, which would help them to face the world in future.
Following that, the domain leaders of Finance, IT and Marketing took turns to introduce their members, related activities and exhorted the students to remain motivated against all odds. Thereafter, various clubs and societies were briefed by the moderated of the programme Ms. Shilpi Kavita. Eventually, the first day of the Deeksharambh came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sushmita Soni.

Honourable Minister Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, Sri Sudhakar Singh graced the inaugural session of the programme as chief guest. Also present were Director, ISM Patna, Professor, Dr. R. K. Singh, domain leaders and other faculty members. The chief guest was welcomed and felicitated by the director. It was attended by more than 250 newly joined BCA and BJMC students. The students were also accompanied by their guardians. At the same time about 400 PGDM, BBA and B. Com participants of the first day Deeksharambh programme were taken to Bihar Museum visit under the guidance of the domain leader of marketing, Assistant Professor, Mr. Nayan Ranjan Sinha., domain leader of HR, Assistant Professor, Ms. Pooja Dubey and Ms. Sushmita Soni.
Congratulating the students on getting admissions in ISM honourable minister said, “Dear students, all of are fortunate enough to start your graduation under the guidance of eminent economist of India, Professor, Dr. R. K. Singh Sir, and the expert faculty members in different domains. I am personally assured that in such a temple of learning, the dreams of your parents will certainly get fulfilled by the dedicated assistance of teachers and their long experiences of corporate world.” Appreciating the ambience of the institute he assured that the government would extend its all-possible assistance to convert it into Vikramshila University within a year.
Assuring the guardians, the Director said, “Now your wards are under the supervision of the whole ISM team, this is our responsibility to make them self-disciplined and self-reliant citizen of India.” Highlining the achievements towards academic excellence he said, “ISM is the first private business school in the province to provide NCC unit to the students from the first semester of their academic calendar. The institute runs more than 20 committees, clubs and cells existed on the campus to improve holistic development of the personality. To enhance the personality desirable for interviews and group discussions, the Domain Leaders of Finance, Marketing, Human Resource and IT convene related conclaves every year. The Cultural and Rangmanch committee is dedicated to connect these new generation youth to the socio-cultural traditions of India. Outcome of our efforts can be measured with increasing rate of placements annually.”
Succeeding that the experienced domain leaders and faculty members shared valuable information upon the respective industry norms with the students. They were briefed upon the multi-dimensional aspects of each programme both on the academic as well as industrial interest. Several activities were conducted by club heads of the institute. Informing the participants the domain leaders said, “After the end of two-day inaugural sessions of Deekharambh, they will be provided with an opportunity for the next two days to interact with several corporate leaders to learn how to connect principles and practices in real world scenario.”

ISM organised a three-day orientation programme for the first year students of BBA, BCA and PGDM from 01 to 03 September. It was held with the participation of about 200 new entrants. Obeying the convention of the institution, the programme commenced with the lightning lamp and reciting Saraswati Hymn by the Convener of the programme Assistant Professor Mrs Shilpi Kavita, Domain Leaders and Mr. Shirish Jha. The commencement of the event was marked by the cordial welcome speech presented by moderator of the whole programme, Assistant Professor, Dr. Sweta. She introduced all the higher authorities Chairman, Sri Samrendra Singh Sir, VC, Mr. Deval Singh Sir, Secretary, Mr. Amal Singh Sir and Administrator, Mrs Neeru Jha to the students. Following that, Domain Leaders Dr. Priydarshini, Dr. Tushar Arya and Mrs. Pooja Dubey made the students familiar with IT, Marketing and HR departments, their erudite faculty members and concerned co-curricular activities respectively.
The faculty members of the Management and IT department took turns to introduce themselves and exhorted the students to remain motivated to respond challenges of academic as well as co-curricular activities for holistic development of their personality. They also highlighted some essential rules and regulations of the institute to maintain the prestigious decorum of the campus. The second day of the orientation programme was commenced with the addresses of Dr. Mohit kumar. Channel Sales, Eureka Fobes; Group HR Head of Mundeshwari Group, Mr. Shirsh Jha and Mr. Ravindra Kumar, CFP, Director, Rapture Consultancy Pvt Ltd. Throughout their addresses they enlightened the students with the scopes Marketing, HR and Finance and their career prospects respectively. On the third day of the programme the students got an opportunity to interact with Dr. Shailesh Kumar Shrivastava, Scientist and Digital Government Research Centre, NIC, Govt. of India, Patna, Mrs Usha Jha, Proprietor Petals Craft, Mainali Chaklanvis, DD News Anchor, Communication & Soft Skills Trainer, academician and author and Mrs Barkha, City Radio. They shared some of their insightful experiences and encouraged the importance of bringing out creativity to be successful in professional life. At the end of the programme, Mr. Shirish Jha and Assistant Professor, Mr. Nayan Ranjan Sinha, motivated the students by telling some motivational stories of great business giant of the world. Eventually, this inspirational, insightful and interesting orientation programme was brought to its end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Nayan Ranjan Sinha.

Orientation is a much-needed program that when planned correctly can aid all participants–new students, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and current students. Orientation is designed to answer questions before they are asked and to provide solutions before problems occur. By planning appropriately and using all campus resources, orientation should relieve anxieties and prepare the new students for success.
As per the government directives students joined the program through virtual platform. The Day1 session started with the introductory speech of Ms.Shilpi Kavita,Assistant Professor. She through her introductory speech welcomed the new students for their intellectual adventure. Academics as well as extracurricular activities were presented.
The honourable Vice chairman Sir was invited to speak few encouraging words to the new member of ISM family. He by giving a strong overview of academic expectations, students were better prepared to meet the challenges of collegiate academics. Therefore, in order to give the most accurate view of an institution, there was both an academic and social component to the orientation program.
The esteemed Director, Dr. Prasanta Kumar Padhy , then expressed his cultivating ideas. He exhorted students to prefer research, entrepreneurship over on campus placement, education should be knowledge oriented rather than placement oriented. Students should try to attain overall development in sports, extra-curricular activities in addition to academics.
During orientation, students were made aware of opportunities to be socially integrated into the college culture. An academic component to orientation will give the new students the advantage they will need in making the transition from high school to college.

The Orientation Program started with Welcome Speech, Lighting of lamp by Vice Chairman Shri. Deval Singh, Director Shri. Jagdish Prasad, Chief Guest Mr. Kaushlendra, UG Incharge Dr. Julee Banerji and PG Incharge Mr. S.P. Ranjan. The program started with speech given by the dignitaries on the Dias. Our esteemed Chief Guest Mr. Kaushlendra, famous with his name IIM MBA sabjiwala inspired everyone with his motivated speech and asked the students to work hard, no class bunk, to be connected to professionals through LinkedIn, to learn more and more from Faculty members and apply the concept of Marginal rate of return theory. In addition to this, Students were introduced with different Clubs and Committees by HOD’s and Chairpersons.
