National Unity Day Celebration

International School of Management Patna organised National Unity Day on Saturday, 5th November, 2022 with great fervour and zeal to tribute to the 141st Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This historic National Unity Day was planned, convened and executed by ISM, Director, Professor (Dr.) R. K. Singh. Justice Mrs. Mridula Mishra (Retd.), Honourable Vice Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Dr Rakesh Kumar Singh, Registrar, Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, and Sri Santosh Singh, Senior Assistant Editor, Indian Express and Author graced the events of the day as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively.

The programme was commenced with the pledge taken by all the members of ISM fraternity to uphold unity and integrity of the nation. After taking pledge a Run for Unity was flagged off at 8:30 AM by the Director. More than 1000 participants comprising students, faculty and staff members and officials of the institute covered a distance of about 4 KM from ISM cricket ground to Usari Chauk enthusiastically. The participants of this run were actively coordinated by all the faculty members. A special assembly was also organised to conduct speech, quiz, cultural programme to enlighten the students about illustrious life of the Iron Man of India. The whole day long programme came to an end with girls’ cricket  matchplayed on the campus of the institute to observe the spirit of women empowerment opined by the great visionary strategist, Sardar Patel.

After felicitations and welcome of the distinguished guests, the Director of the institute said in his inaugural speech, “As one of the ‘Paanch Pran’ declared by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on Independence Day, 2022 this National Unity Day celebration is to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a man of supreme patriotism, iron will, and courage of conviction. This is intended to make the contemporary youth aware of the vital role of Sardar Patel in the Indian freedom struggle and unification of States that earned him the title of ‘Iron Man of India’. This is also an honour to the patriotism of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to reinforce his teachings and values to the present-day youth of the nation.” Along with highlighting nation building political concepts Sardar Patel, as an economist, the Director also deliberated on his economic views like economic recovery and reconstruction of the nation, restoring business confidence, protection of business community, self-reliance, savings and investment policy. Informing the students about investment-led growth championed by Sardar Patel he quoted his opinion on individual savings to reconstruct Indian economy, “Spend less, save more, and invest as much as possible should be the motto of every citizen. Every segment of the society - lawyers, farmers, labours, traders, businessmen and government servants for saving every ‘anna’ that could be spared and to place their savings in the hands of the government for utilisation in nation-building enterprises.”

On this special occasion an expert in Nanotechnology, Dr Rakesh Kumar Singh, shared his views with students on the cosmic unity of nature. He said, “Nature makes us learn unity at each and every step of life.” He suggested the students to think differently to get a vibrant personality with the united cosmic energy of nature.

Sri Santosh Singh, Senior Assistant Editor, Indian Express appreciated the efforts of ISM to organise such a great event to remember the facts hidden in the history. Starting with the quotation of George Orwell he said, “History nourishes the thoughts of new generations so organising such an event is a step to know about the real figure of present India” He also
recalled great contributions of Sardar Patel in unifying 565 princely states and giving the concept of an umbrella Indian Administrative Services to unite India as a single entity.


Appreciating frequent extra-curricular activities organised by ISM, Hon’ble VC, CLU, said to the students, “Extra-curricular activities revolutionise your mind, it gives you a fresh idea to study new, to think new and do new.” She expressed her happiness to get the ISM students enthusiastically engaged in various types of activities dedicated to protect and promote national unity. She too highlighted significant contributions of Sardar Patel and Indira Gandhi in the integrity and unity of India.


All the events organised by the Director were actively coordinated by Cultural Committee Chairperson, Mrs Shilpi Kavita, one of the Cultural Committee members, Mrs. Vandana Verma, BAJMC Course Coordinator, Mr. Sanjay Bharati, faculty members and students of ISM Patna.
