Patna, 29 January 2026: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, International School of Management (ISM), Patna, organized a seminar on the topic “Fundamental Concepts of Photography and Lighting” for students of BAJMC and other undergraduate programmes. The keynote speaker of the seminar was senior journalist and Assistant Professor at Patna Women’s College, Mr. Prashant Ravi, who delivered a lecture based on practical knowledge related to photography and lighting. He also shared his extensive professional and academic experience in the media field with the students.
The programme was organized under the guidance of the Vice Chairman of the Institution, Mr. Deval Singh. The Director, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, and the Academic Head, Dr. Sweta Rani, advised the students to make the most of this opportunity. The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Sunita, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
During the seminar, Mr. Ravi introduced students to the basic techniques of photography, with special emphasis on camera handling, framing, composition, and the effective use of natural and artificial light. Through practical examples, he explained how light plays a crucial role in visual storytelling and news photography. He also gave live demonstrations using cameras, lighting equipment, and other photographic tools.
The programme, conducted by Assistant Professor Ms. Swati Sawarn, was completely interactive, with enthusiastic participation from students who raised questions regarding the practical application of photography in journalism. The seminar proved to be informative and inspiring for the students, further strengthening their understanding of visual communication in contemporary media.
On this occasion, Mr. Satish Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and an expert in photography and television production, stated:

Such sessions bridge the gap between theory and practice and help students develop a strong visual language, which is essential for journalism, television, and digital media.
