Workshop on Photography, Videography, and Reel Making Equips Students with Practical Industry Skills
ISM, Patna, 12 February 2026: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, successfully organized an engaging and skill-oriented workshop on “Practical Exposure to Photography, Videography, and Reel Making” on campus. The event aimed to provide hands-on technical training and industry insights to students pursuing BAJMC and other undergraduate programmes.
The workshop was conducted under the dynamic leadership of the Vice Chairman of the Institution, Mr. Deval Singh, whose vision for experiential learning continues to shape innovative academic initiatives at ISM.
The engaging and informative workshop was conducted by the Resource Person, Mr. Sohail Akhtar, Canon SSO, Bihar. Bringing valuable industry expertise and practical insights, Mr. Akhtar introduced students to the technical nuances of professional photography and videography, including camera handling, framing techniques, lighting composition, lens selection, and the growing importance of reels and short-form video content in digital media.
Emphasizing the rapid transformation of media platforms, Mr. Akhtar encouraged students to blend creativity with technical precision. He demonstrated practical shooting techniques and shared real-world examples, helping participants understand how professional tools can enhance storytelling in journalism and digital communication.
The workshop received enthusiastic participation from BAJMC and other undergraduate students, who actively engaged in live demonstrations and interactive discussions. The hands-on exposure enabled them to experiment with camera settings, explore angles and compositions, and understand the workflow of reel production for social media platforms.
The programme was conducted under the able guidance of Director Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Academic Head Dr. Sweta Rani, Training and Placement Officer, Ms. Neeru Kumari, and Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Sunita. Their collective support ensured the event's academic and professional relevance.
Assistant Professor Mr. Rahul Kumar efficiently coordinated the workshop from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, whose efforts ensured smooth execution and meaningful student engagement.
In her takeaway note, Dr. Sunita, Head of the Department, emphasized that practical exposure is indispensable in media education. She highlighted that in today’s digital era, visual storytelling plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and professional identity. She encouraged students to continuously practice and innovate to stay competitive in the evolving media landscape.
