ISM Patna, March 29, 2025: Under the guidance of Director, Dr. V. B. Singh, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at International School of Management (ISM), Patna, successfully conducted an Outdoor Photography Session for BA (JMC) 4th semester students as part of their Digital Photography course. Held on March 29, 2025, at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna Zoo), the session provided a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in outdoor photography techniques.
Under the supervision of Mr. Rahul Kumar, Class Coordinator, nine students participated in the session, exploring various elements of photography, including wildlife, landscapes, candid expressions, and architectural compositions. The practical exposure was aimed at enhancing their technical skills in composition, lighting, and subject selection, while also fulfilling their academic requirement of compiling a photography portfolio.
Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Isha Birlay, BAJMC Coordinator, emphasised the significance of practical learning in journalism and mass communication. “Photography is an essential skill for media students. This session helped them develop a keen eye for visual storytelling and understand the nuances of outdoor shooting environments,” she said.
The session concluded with students successfully capturing compelling images aligned with their coursework. The experience not only boosted their confidence in handling professional photography assignments but also deepened their understanding of environmental and visual narratives.
As part of their academic requirements, students were required to submit a handwritten report and a press release on their visit to the Training & Placement Office (TPO). Additionally, they had to document information on five different trees and plants found in the park, highlighting their botanical names, unique features, and uses.
The initiative reflects ISM Patna’s commitment to fostering experiential learning and equipping students with industry-relevant skills. Similar field sessions will continue to be an integral part of the curriculum to prepare students for dynamic careers in media and communication.
