Patna, 26 November 2025: Under the leadership of Academic Head, Dr. Sweta Rani, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, celebrated Constitution Day with a vibrant and intellectually engaging programme that upheld the spirit of democracy, citizenship, and informed dialogue. More than 160 first-semester undergraduate students participated enthusiastically in a series of academic and co-curricular activities aimed at strengthening their understanding of the Indian Constitution and its relevance in today’s context. Assistant Professors Nishant Kumar and Sweta Savarn of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication directed the event.

The programme commenced with the Constitution Day Pledge, through which students renewed their commitment to democratic values and constitutional ethics. Addressing the gathering, Admin Ms. Neeru Kumari underscored the importance of the Constitution and the relevance of observing Constitution Day.

Following the pledge, an engaging Essay Writing Competition set an academic tone for the celebration. Seventy students participated, presenting insightful essays on themes of national and contemporary relevance such as Freedom of Speech in India: Rights, Responsibilities, and Limitations, Youth, Technology, and Emerging Challenges, and Cybersecurity and Constitutional Rights in the Age of AI. Their writings demonstrated a commendable understanding of current issues and highlighted the analytical promise of ISM’s young scholars.Adding momentum to the day, 60 students participated in an engaging Group Debate Competition, voicing strong, evidence-based perspectives on critical contemporary issues. The groups deliberated on topics such as: Does India need a new Constitution? Is the Indian media truly the fourth pillar of democracy today? Social media platforms should be held legally accountable for misinformation. Digital India has strengthened democratic participation. Fundamental Duties vs. Fundamental Rights: Which deserves greater emphasis today?

Each debate session was marked by intellectual rigor, spirited argumentation, and respect for diverse viewpoints, values central to democratic citizenship.

The Speech Competition brought forward 30 eloquent speakers, who articulated powerful insights on topics including Fundamental Rights: The Backbone of Our Democracy; Why Constitution Day Matters for Today’s Youth; The Role of the Constitution in Protecting Diversity and Unity in India; and The Spirit of Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity in Our Daily Lives. Their speeches demonstrated confidence, clarity, and a profound sense of civic responsibility. Winners from each category were felicitated for their excellence, creativity, and commitment to constitutional values.

The event was honoured by the gracious presence of Dr. Sweta Rani, Academic Head, along with the Heads of the Departments of Management, Computer Applications, Journalism & Mass Communication, and Commerce. The participation of faculty members and non-teaching staff added warmth and community spirit to the occasion.

All activities were meticulously coordinated by Assistant Professors Mr. Kundan Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kumar, and Ms. Swati Savarn, whose guidance and encouragement inspired students to perform at their best. The Jury Members for the Speech and Debate events included Assistant Professors Mr. Prabhakar Kumar, Mr. Bhavesh Kumar, and Principal Dr. D. N.
