ISM Students Observe Vriksha Bandhan as Friendship Day with Trees

Patna, August 4, 2025 — In a heartfelt celebration blending environmental awareness with the spirit of friendship, students of the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, marked Vriksha Bandhan as Friendship Day with a visit to Tarumitra Ashram, Patna. The event, organised under the guidance of the Academic Head, Dr. Sweta Rani and Admin, Ms. Neeru Kumari Jha, was spearheaded by GREENISM, the institution’s Eco Club and Cultural Committee.

Over 80 students of BCA First Semester took part in the eco-centric initiative on Monday, tying self-made, biodegradable rakhis around tree trunks in a symbolic pledge of protection and reverence for nature. The gesture served as an expression of solidarity with the environment and a reminder of the deep-rooted connection between humans and the natural world.

The initiative was coordinated by Dr. Sweta Rani, Academic Head at ISM Patna, along with Ms. Swati Sawarn, Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students were asked to design rakhis a day in advance using only natural and eco-friendly materials, such as jute, khadi, dried flowers, wooden beads, and organic dyes like haldi, kumkum, and indigo. Many also crafted posters reflecting themes of sustainability and environmental friendship.

The event was enriched by the presence of Father Robert Athickal, S.J., Founder of Tarumitra Ashram, and Ms. Devopriya Dutta, Coordinator, who engaged the students in a reflective session on ecological harmony and sustainable living.

“Vriksha Bandhan is more than a celebration; it is a reaffirmation of our sacred bond with nature,” said Dr. Sweta Rani in her address. “As future leaders, our students must cultivate an ethic of environmental responsibility in every sphere of life. I am proud of their commitment and creativity.”

The initiative not only promoted eco-consciousness but also encouraged values of empathy, community, and sustainability, reflecting ISM Patna’s emphasis on holistic and value-based education.
