Smart Investing Starts Early: ISM Organises a Guest Lecture on Mutual Fund Investment

ISM, Patna, March 30, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening financial literacy and promoting investment awareness among future business professionals, the Department of Commerce at the International School of Management (ISM), Patna, organised an enriching guest lecture on the topic “How to Invest in Mutual Funds” for MBA, PGDM, and BBA students.

The session aimed to equip students with practical knowledge about personal finance, wealth creation, and the fundamentals of mutual fund investment, an area of growing importance in today’s dynamic financial landscape. The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who engaged actively in the discussion and demonstrated keen interest in understanding the nuances of informed and disciplined investing.

The resource person for the session was Mr. Rajiv Lochan Pandey, a distinguished Financial Goal Planner and Financial Advisor, who delivered an insightful and highly engaging lecture on the principles, processes, and prudence involved in mutual fund investments. Drawing from his professional expertise, he introduced students to the concept of mutual funds as an accessible and effective investment avenue, especially for young earners and aspiring professionals.

During the session, Mr. Pandey explained the basics of mutual funds, different types of fund categories, risk-return considerations, SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans), the importance of goal-based financial planning, and the need to align investments with one’s financial objectives and risk appetite. He also highlighted the significance of starting early, maintaining financial discipline, and avoiding impulsive decisions in wealth-building journeys. His lucid explanation of complex financial concepts made the session highly relatable and beneficial for students from diverse academic backgrounds.

 

The guest lecture was organised under the inspiring leadership of Vice-Chairman Mr. Deval Singh, and under the direction of Director, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Academic Head, Dr. Sweta Rani, Principal, Dr. Vivekanand Sharma, and Admin Ms. Neeru Kumari, whose continued commitment to academic innovation and industry-oriented learning made the initiative possible.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Sudhir Kumar Sinha, who played a pivotal role in conceptualising the session and ensuring its academic relevance for the students. The event was efficiently coordinated by all the faculty members of the Department of Commerce, whose collective efforts contributed significantly to the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sudhir Kumar Sinha, Head of the Department of Commerce, underscored the importance of financial literacy as an essential life skill for management and commerce students. In his takeaway note for the participants, he encouraged students to cultivate responsible financial habits, develop a long-term investment mindset, and begin understanding financial instruments at an early stage. He remarked that informed investing is not merely about earning returns, but about building security, discipline, and confidence for the future.

The session concluded on a highly motivating note, leaving students better informed about mutual fund investments and more aware of the role of financial planning in personal and professional success.
