Under the guidance of Director, Professor, (Dr) R. K. Singh, NSS Cell of International School of Management Patna observed World No Tobacco Day on Wednesday, 31 May. Recognizing the significance of this day, as an awareness drive about the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption on human health, ISM, a renowned educational institution committed to holistic development, engaged students, faculty, and the local community in impactful activities promoting a smoke-free lifestyle.
Under the theme “We Need Food No Tobacco” a series of educational and interactive events were organised to encourage individuals to make a firm commitment to quitting tobacco and create an environment that supports those seeking to quit. On the occasion, an awareness talk and workshop were conducted by volunteers who interacted with the students on the health hazards of tobacco, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and respiratory disorders. Participants were equipped with knowledge of effective cessation techniques and the benefits of a tobacco-free life.
NSS volunteers along with other students showcased their creativity by participating in poster and slogan competitions, crafting compelling visuals and messages to raise awareness among the local community about the dangers of tobacco use. Several cultural programmes like skits, poems, and presentations were performed by the participants to sensitise the youth about the physical and mental lethal effects of tobacco. At the end of the programme, no tobacco pledge was recited by the students to commit publicly to a tobacco-free life and inspire others to follow it. The whole programme was moderated by Vishal and Anjali from BAJMC and BCP respectively.
Earlier, in the inaugural session Honourable Director stated, "At ISM, we firmly believe in nurturing our students’ physical and mental well-being. Through the observance of World, No Tobacco Day, we strive to educate, motivate, and support individuals in their journey towards a tobacco-free life. We are confident that these activities will foster a positive and healthy environment for our students and contribute to a tobacco-free society.”
“Through the NSS, we can make a meaningful impact by organizing educational campaigns, awareness programs, and community initiatives. These activities can educate the peers about the dangers of tobacco, support individuals who want to quit and work towards creating a tobacco-free environment within our campus and beyond”, asserted Chairperson of the NSS Cell, ISM, Ms Shilpi Kavita.
